On Tuesday 9th August The Cambridgeshire Police Shrievalty Trust and The Alconbury Driving Centre hosted a driving experience for 60 young people from The Burned Children’s Camp. The young burns victims were given the opportunity to drive with an Instructor in a dual controlled vehicle, and learn for the first time how a real car handles. Volunteers from The Cambridgeshire Police Driving School, and The Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue Service were on hand to offer the youngsters a ride in a Police car and a Fire Engine.

Motorcycle trainers from Alconbury Driving Centre attended the event to give an opportunity to sit on a motorbike and look at and talk about Motorcycle safety.

After the driving experience, Kimbolton Rotary Club members took the whole group to a local fast food venue to round off an evening that for the young people was a fantastic experience and some said it was “the highlight of their week”.

The Cambridgeshire Police Shrievalty Trust, Alconbury Driving Centre, The Cambridgeshire Police, and The Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue Service personnel all volunteered their time to be involved – The Alconbury Driving Centre.
