SCHOOLS PROGRAMME

This scheme has already been running successfully for the past 18 months, with more than 80 young people attending each week for a two-hour session of practical and classroom study.

The programme, which runs for an academic year, has seen pupils from seven Cambridgeshire schools learn about motor vehicle history, motoring maths, first aid, car safety checks and the Highway Code. They spend at least an hour a week on practical issues, including driving skills in dual-control cars on the Centre’s driving circuit.

Many students sit an exam in Motor Vehicle and Road User Studies at the end of the course.

Students are reported to have benefited not only from the direct skills taught, but also in the terms of personal development and self-esteem.

The Schools Programme is subsidised by the Cambridgeshire Police Shrievalty Trust.
